New iPod Touch introduced, is like an iPhone 4 without the phone

A few seconds later, the CEO announced the new iPod Touch that is an iPhone 4, but without the phone in it. The iPod Touch has all the new features of the iPhone 4 including the gorgeous Retina display, a new camera on the back that shoots HD footage including HD video, a front camera that can be used for Face Time between iPods and iPhones. The only thing that looks different from the hardware side is the thickness of the device. The iPod Touch is still thinner than the iPhone 4, and it’s even thinner than the last generation iPod Touch. The new iPod Touch devices, available with 8 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, will be available next week. Here’s some pricing and release date information from Apple’s press release:

Pricing & Availability

The new iPod touch will be available next week for a suggested price of $229 (US) for the 8GB model, $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. iPod touch requires a Mac® with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS® X v10.5.8 or later and iTunes 10 or later; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3) or later and iTunes 10 or later. Existing second and third generation iPod touch users can update to iOS 4.1 free of charge on September 8 to enjoy new features including Game Center.
