Belkin JoyPod gaming looks promising
- Filed under: Development Tools, iPhone, iPod
- Date: Sep 1,2008
Touch Arcade got their hands on some artworks of the Belkin JoyPod for the iPhone. It’s still a prototype, but rumors are floating around saying that Apple will be providing support for this add-on in the system’s SDK. Most gamers were concerned that iPhone gaming could never break through because of the lack of buttons on the device, but with this JoyPod those problems would be gone.
A Spanish advertisement for this JoyPod add-on shows that it has eight buttons, audio output and a dock connector for power and syncing so that you don’t have to get your iPhone out of the accessory to sync or charge it. It’s not clear whether this JoyPod will also support the iPod Touch or not.

Earlier, we were reporting that Gameloft is planning to focus more and more on the iPhone, and one of the games that should give them a higher sales this fall is Asphalt 4 Elite Racing for the iPhone and available since today. The game was due to come out somewhere in July, but Gameloft needed more time to finish this car with 28 beautiful licensed cars. With cars from manufacturers like Aston Martin, Ferrari and Bugatti you’ll be cruising through 5 game modes and 9 cities such as Dubai, Shanghai, New York and, bien sur, Paris. This $9.99 app is probably one of the best-looking iPhone games out there, if not one of the best portable games out on the market. Read the rest of this entry »

The popular ‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader’ TV’ show now has its own iPhone game available in the App Store for $9.99. The concept of this game developed by Capcom is simple, you need to answer questions about stuff that a 5th grader learns in school. The game offers you a series of up to eleven questions in every round ranging from different subjects like math, history and so on. With over 800 questions in the game there’s plenty of opportunities to show that you’re smarther than a 5th grader.
Red Herring reports that Gameloft is counting on the iPhone for better financial results this year. On Thursday they reported a net loss of 1.2 million dollars on sales of 74 million dollars for their first half of 2008. Last year they still had a net income of 50,000 dollars.
“These strategic investments pave the way for the future growth of the company, especially in the ‘rich games’ segment that was launched in 2008 on high-end phones (iPhone, N-Gage, Instinct, etc.) and on downloading consoles (Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3), which is expected to fuel growth in the second half of 2008 and in following years,”
Gameloft currently has seven games out for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
